Joining MCSAR
Membership in MCSAR is open to those who are age 14 and older, have a desire to help others in the outdoors, and are willing to respond to emergencies whenever possible.
In order to ensure that new members have the knowledge and skills necessary to positively and safely contribute to search and rescue operations, prospective members must complete Mason County SAR Basic Training program. They must also provide documentation for several independently obtained certifications and complete core competency training as prescribed by the Washington State Department of Emergency Management and the Mason County Department of Emergency Management.
Now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 training season.
To apply, prospective members will need to –
- Be willing to undergo and pass a background check
- Complete online FEMA courses IS-100 and IS-700

Training Dates (subject to change) –
- Recruiting Orientation and Information Session: 2nd Saturday of September – September 13, 10:00am-12:00pm
- In class training: 2nd Saturdays of October, November, December, and January
- In field overnights: 2nd Weekends of February, March, and April
